Royal Portrush Golf Club is set in a triangle of giant sand hills offering magnificent views in all directions: the hills of Donegal to the west, the island of Islay and the South Hebrides to the north, with the iconic Giant’s Causeway and the Skerries to the east.
The courses are dominated by the ruins of the 13th century Dunluce Castle, which gives its name to the famous Dunluce Links at Royal Portrush, one of the world’s toughest golf courses.

Royal Troon Golf Club fué fundado en 1878 por unos pocos entusiastas y pronto superó su reputación puramente local. El Old Course representa hoy en día un severo examen de golf y, en particular, la mitad interior de Royal Troon es ampliamente aceptada como la más exigente de cualquier campo de la Championship rotación.

The Open historia
The Open, antes conocido como The Open Championship y British Open, o Abierto Británico y Open Británico por los hispano hablantes, es el torneo de golf más famoso y antiguo del mundo. En la actualidad es denominado “major”, junto al The Masters, U.S. Open y PGA Championship.
Se celebra cada año en la tercera semana del mes de julio en algunos de los clubes más prestigiosos del Reino Unido, la denomina campos de la rotación, campos de golf estilo “links”, cuya característica principal es que están situados en zonas costeras.
El motivo por el que se jugó el primer The Open fue la búsqueda de sucesor como “Campeón del golf” de Allan Robertson que falleció en 1859, considerado el primer «grande» del golf, quien dominó este deporte a mediados del siglo XIX.
La primera edición de The Open se celebró el 17 de Octubre de 1860 en Prestwick Golf Club, contó con la participación de 8 profesionales que jugaron 3 vueltas en un sólo día, para un total de 36 hoyos ya que Prestwick Golf Club contaba solamente con 12 hoyos.
El primer ganador fue Willie Parker Sr., consiguió la victoria por una diferencia de 2 golpes sobre Tom Morris Sr.. El premio fue la Challenge Belt, un cinturón con detalles de plata que disfrutaría hasta el próximo año.
Tom Morris Jr. ganó en 1870 The Open por tercera vez consecutiva, y se quedó de manera permanente el Challenge Belt. Al no haber premio para el ganador, no se disputó la edición de 1871, retornando a la acción en 1872, con un nuevo trofeo: la mítica Jarra de Clarete.
Prestwick Golf Club dirigió el torneo entre 1860 y 1870; a partir de ese momento, compartió la responsabilidad con otros dos clubes, The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews y The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers. Desde 1920 la organización recae sobre The R&A.
The Open sólo ha fallado a su cita anual en 13 ocasiones, por la falta de trofeo (1871), por la I Guerra Mundial (1915-1919), por la II Guerra Mundial (1940-1945) y la más reciente por la Pandemia Covid-19 (2020).

Desde que Ernie Els ganara en el Royal Lytham & St. Annes en 2012 han sido muchas las nacionalidades de los ganadores y algunas historias preciosas como la gran victoria de Shane Lowry en Royal Portrush después de que el mejor torneo del mundo decidiera volver a Irlanda del Norte tras 60 años.
