The Masters history
The Masters is one of the most prestigious golf tournaments in the world, held each year at the Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia, United States. Founded in 1934 by Bobby Jones and Clifford Roberts, The Masters has witnessed some of the most memorable moments in golf history.
Since its inception, the tournament has been known for its tradition and elegance, being one of the few golf events that maintains the same location each year and with a unique awards ceremony. The first winner of The Masters Tournament was Horton Smith, who took home a cash prize of $1,500.
Over the decades, the Augusta Masters has seen some of the greatest golfers in history don the famous Green Jacket, including such legends as Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods and Arnold Palmer, who have won the tournament six, five and four times respectively.
The tournament has also witnessed historic moments in golf history, such as the 1986 “Miracle at Amen Corner“, when Jack Nicklaus birdied the 11th, 12th and 13th holes on the final day of the tournament to win his sixth Masters title at the age of 46.
In addition, Augusta National Golf Club has been a place of great significance in the history of golf in the United States, being the first golf club to accept African-American golfers in the 1960s, breaking a long tradition of racial exclusion in the sport.
In short, the Augusta Masters is more than just a golf tournament, it is a tradition and an event that has witnessed some of the most memorable moments in the history of golf, and remains one of the most anticipated sporting events each year.
